AI Alignment Awards

AI Alignment Awards was founded to raise awareness about AI alignment, to find people who might be able to make progress on this important field, and to generate research progress. We’re funded by Open Philanthropy, and we’re fiscally sponsored by the Player’s Philanthropy Fund.

Olivia Jimenez

Co-founder

Olivia graduated from Columbia University with a degree in philosophy. She is the Chief of Staff at the Center for AI Policy and an Open Philanthropy Century Fellow. She has also made >$1 million in grants to AI safety projects.

Akash Wasil

Co-founder

Akash graduated from Harvard University with a degree in psychology. He was a graduate student and National Science Foundation Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where he authored over 30 papers.

Nate Soares

Advisor & Judge

Nate is the Executive Director of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute. Previously, he worked for Google, Microsoft, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Ethan Perez

Advisor

Ethan is a research scientist at Anthropic. Previously, he worked for DeepMind, Facebook AI Research, Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms, and Google. He received his PhD from NYU.

Richard Ngo

Advisor & Judge

Richard is a research scientist on the Futures team at Open AI. Previously, he worked on the safety team at Deepmind and at the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University.

John Wentworth

Advisor & Judge

John is an independent AI researcher focused on the natural abstraction hypothesis and selection theorems. Previously, he worked as a data scientist, software developer, and quantitative analyst.

Amy Labenz

Advisor

Amy is the Head of Events at the Center for Effective Altruism. Previously, she practiced law and was the Chief Operating Officer of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute.

Lauro Langosco

Advisor & Judge

Lauro is a PhD student with David Krueger in the Computational & Biological Learning lab at the University of Cambridge. Previously, he worked at the Center for Human Compatible AI.
